Naturally and Restfully Sleep with Alpine Wool
A good night’s sleep leaves you refreshed and ready for the day. The key foundation is a balanced sleep climate — something alpine wool creates perfectly. Exactly the alpine wool used in our Grüezi bag sleeping bags!
Why Alpine Wool is a Natural Climate Regulator
Our bodies constantly release moisture. If too much humidity builds up inside the sleeping bag, you get cold and restful sleep becomes impossible. Wool has the amazing ability to absorb moisture and release it slowly. That’s why there’s no evaporative chill inside our alpine wool sleeping bags — wool keeps you warm even when damp!
Structure of the Wool Fiber
Thanks to its crimped structure, wool fibers absorb moisture and optimally regulate the sleep climate.
Alpine Wool – a Climate Wonder:
It warms and cools equally for total comfort and peaceful sleep.
Grüezi bag uses Biopod wool, the “filling wool from sheep of the Alpine region,” processed and supplied by the well-known wool supplier Lavalan. We value regional products and short supply chains.
Why Is Wool the Right Material for Your Sleeping Bag?
Studies such as those by Woolmark Australia show that sleeping with wool leads to longer and more restful sleep because it nearly perfectly maintains the ideal sleep temperature of 33°C (91.4°F). Other materials fall short, especially synthetic bedding which is no match for wool — especially alpine wool. Without it, you risk kicking off the covers and becoming chilled during the night.
This was tested in sleep labs at a comfortable room temperature of 22°C (71.6°F).
Even Couples Sleep Comfortably Under an Alpine Wool Blanket
Wool fibers regulate each person’s body temperature individually, ensuring comfort for two.
Natural, Durable, Antibacterial, and Sustainable
Alpine wool is a renewable, biodegradable, and natural resource — sheep are shorn annually, and wool decomposes naturally without residues at the end of its life cycle. This ecological cycle meets the demands of environmentally conscious consumers.
Grüezi bag wool sleeping bags are comfortable companions, lightweight on your back, and tiny in pack size. For example, our Biopod Wool Plus weighs just 690 grams!
Alpine Wool or DownWool? When We Recommend Each Insulation
Sleeping bags with alpine wool insulation are designed for temperatures above freezing. They excel especially in humid conditions, like by rivers, lakes, or the sea. Alpine wool absorbs a lot of moisture without losing insulation — guaranteeing a dry, warm sleep climate.
For use around or below freezing temperatures, we recommend our DownWool sleeping bags such as Subzero and Ice.
DownWool sleeping bags offer an optimal balance of insulation and weight. The down provides excellent warmth and keeps the bag light, while the wool ensures a perfect, moisture-regulated climate.
