Lightweight winter sleeping bag for cold mountain tours

The "DownWool-Hybrid Ice Alpin" is a sophisticated sleeping bag with DownWool Hybrid insulation and a sophisticated baffle design. An optional carbon heating element for emergency use provides the necessary safety buffer on cold mountain tours around freezing temperatures.

Grüezi bag® sleeping bags offer the best sleeping comfort and functionality

Grüezi bag sleeping bags have received numerous awards for their excellent insulation and well-thought-out designs.

  • DownWool hybrid construction for drier down  With conventional winter sleeping bags, moisture often condenses on the inside of the outer material, dripping onto the down and reducing its insulation performance. Grüezi bag® takes an innovative approach: A layer of Alpine wool reliably protects the high-quality, animal welfare-certified (RDS-certified) European goose down (fill power 800+ cuin) from moisture. The wool layer absorbs the resulting moisture, transports it to the outside, and keeps the down permanently dry. The result: optimal protection against moisture from both inside and out – and consistently high insulation performance.
  • Wider temperature range: DownWool hybrid sleeping bags have a wider temperature range in which you feel comfortable. Wool balances out temperature fluctuations.
  • More sleep, more energy: The body needs a lot of energy to regulate its temperature. Wool supports this process thanks to its excellent temperature-regulating properties.
  • Lightweight and small when packed: thanks to the body-fitting mummy shape.
  • Prevention of cold bridges: An Alpine wool layer construction on the top as well as an elaborate chamber system consisting of box and H-chambers (V-shaped) and additional side chambers guarantee even heat distribution, prevent cold bridges and ensure that the down does not slip.
  • Carbon heating element : This can be optionally retrofitted and can be easily operated with a standard power bank. After a strenuous hike, we recommend preheating the sleeping bag for 10-15 minutes to optimally support your body's recovery.
  • Anti-slip studs: They prevent slipping off the insulation mat and thus ensure a stable sleeping place.
  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification: Grüezi bag® products are harmless to human health.

FEATURES

  • Adjustable hood with face baffle: The thermal baffle adapts perfectly to the shape of your head. When it's cold, only a small hole remains open, reducing heat loss from the face.
  • 3D thermal collar: Closes automatically in the zipper area, so there is no cold bridge in the zipper area.
  • Drawstring pocket: To ensure that the drawstring on the thermal collar does not get in the way, it is safely stored in a simple drawstring pocket.
  • Inside & outside pocket: For valuables and things you prefer to keep close to you.
  • Two-way auto-lock zipper: The zipper can be opened and closed from either end, inside or outside. The auto-lock prevents it from opening accidentally.
  • White zipper: This makes it easier to find the zipper in the dark.
  • Zipper with anti-snag zipper and lined robust webbing: This makes the zipper even easier to operate without pinching the outer fabric.
  • Zipper with lined zipper cover: So that heat cannot escape and no cold bridges are created.
  • Elaborately pre-shaped foot box: With many chambers to avoid cold spots and plenty of space for the toes
  • Feater loops: The warming hip bag with heating element (Feater - The Feet Heater) can be installed additionally.
  • Chamber construction: Box chambers , H-chambers (V-shaped), additional sidewall construction , AlmWolle layer construction on the top
  • Anti-slip nubs on the back: These prevent the sleeping bag from slipping on an insulation mat.

WHAT IS DOWNWOOL-HYBRID?

The special feature of this sleeping bag is its innovative hybrid insulation. The insulation is naturally less sensitive to high humidity. In a DownWool-Hybrid sleeping bag, you immediately feel a wide temperature comfort range, where you neither feel too cold nor too warm.

This is achieved through the innovative layered construction of high-quality, animal welfare-certified (RDS-certified) European goose down (800+ cuin) and a layer of wool from the Alps. This patented combination acts like a light and natural air conditioner.

Down: excellent insulation performance only when dry!

High-quality down insulates exceptionally well at low weight. However, down clumps together in high humidity (air, sweat, condensation) and loses its insulating properties. Grüezi bag solves this problem with the innovative two-layer construction of wool and down.

Wool: effective moisture and temperature regulation

Thanks to the wool layer in DownWool-Hybrid, the down naturally stays drier and thus retains its insulating effect: in winter temperatures, every person sweats up to 1.5 liters during the night. This body moisture evaporates inside the sleeping bag and condenses on the inner side of the outer shell at sub-zero temperatures, dripping onto the down, which then loses its insulation power. The wool layer in Grüezi bag® hybrid sleeping bags absorbs moisture and releases it outward, keeping the down dry and maintaining its high insulation ability. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture through its capillaries and gradually release it again.

DownWool-Hybrid not only regulates moisture effectively but also body temperature. Wool prevents chilling evaporation cooling and retains its warming properties even when wet, which no other material can do. Wool naturally creates a cozy and pleasant microclimate thanks to its unique climate-regulating property. It also neutralizes unpleasant odors.

The result: excellent insulation and a wide temperature range in which you feel comfortable and sleep well. In addition, DownWool-Hybrid is less sensitive to high humidity, making Grüezi bag® sleeping bags powerful options below freezing.

CARE

Washing

  • The washing instructions are located in the inner pocket of the sleeping bag.
  • The sleeping bag can be washed by hand or machine on a wool cycle at max. 30 °C / 86 °F using a down detergent. Please turn it inside out, close the zipper, run an extra rinse cycle, and do not use fabric softener.
  • Remove the item from the machine, fluff it slightly, and run an additional spin cycle at max. 600 RPM.

Drying

  • Dry in a tumble dryer at max. 60 °C / 140 °F and be sure to add 2-3 tennis balls to help loosen the filling.
  • Repeat drying cycles multiple times, fluff the item well after each cycle, and let it cool between cycles.
  • Set the dryer to a timed program to fully dry the down.
  • If no dryer is available, the sleeping bag can be laid on a drying rack on sunny days and frequently fluffed so air can circulate from above and below.

When is drying complete?

If the item still does not regain its original loft, repeat drying cycles until the sleeping bag feels fuller than before.
Depending on the water resistance of the outer fabric, drying can take different lengths of time (at least 2 days, depending on the dryer model).
The down must be completely dry. If not properly dried and fluffed, the down feathers may clump, which can irreparably damage the sleeping bag. You can tell the product is fully dry when it feels fuller and thicker than before. Damp down can smell unpleasant, but this odor disappears after drying.

TIP

Down sleeping bags should be dried occasionally or after every trip in the dryer with tennis balls to remove excess moisture.
Sleeping bags must be stored open and dry in their storage bag.
When packing into the compression sack, the sleeping bag should be stuffed foot-first, not rolled or folded.
Better than washing is airing out the sleeping bag. DownWool-Hybrid® sleeping bags rarely need washing because wool naturally resists odors and dirt. For small external stains, we recommend gently cleaning only the spot. For greasy or widely soiled sleeping bags, machine washing is possible.
Every sleeping bag should be used with a sleeping pad, as the insulation is compressed underneath when on the ground, preventing air and thus heat from being stored. More info about the right sleeping pad can be found here.

Elaborate box and side chamber construction

In the chest area, the chambers on the inside of the sleeping bag are divided into individual compartments. This prevents the down from shifting and thus preventing cold spots from forming. The sleeping bag also has side chambers. When turning, the insulation often slips away from the shoulder; however, the side chambers secure the down, keeping the shoulder and the entire sleeping bag warm.
