Lightweight winter sleeping bag for cold mountain tours
The "DownWool-Hybrid Ice Alpin" is a sophisticated sleeping bag with DownWool Hybrid insulation and a sophisticated baffle design. An optional carbon heating element for emergency use provides the necessary safety buffer on cold mountain tours around freezing temperatures.
Grüezi bag® sleeping bags offer the best sleeping comfort and functionality
Grüezi bag sleeping bags have received numerous awards for their excellent insulation and well-thought-out designs.
-
DownWool hybrid construction for drier down : With conventional winter sleeping bags, moisture often condenses on the inside of the outer material, dripping onto the down and reducing its insulation performance. Grüezi bag® takes an innovative approach: A layer of Alpine wool reliably protects the high-quality, animal welfare-certified (RDS-certified) European goose down (fill power 800+ cuin) from moisture. The wool layer absorbs the resulting moisture, transports it to the outside, and keeps the down permanently dry. The result: optimal protection against moisture from both inside and out – and consistently high insulation performance.
-
Wider temperature range: DownWool hybrid sleeping bags have a wider temperature range in which you feel comfortable. Wool balances out temperature fluctuations.
-
More sleep, more energy: The body needs a lot of energy to regulate its temperature. Wool supports this process thanks to its excellent temperature-regulating properties.
-
Lightweight and small when packed: thanks to the body-fitting mummy shape.
-
Prevention of cold bridges: An Alpine wool layer construction on the top as well as an elaborate chamber system consisting of box and H-chambers (V-shaped) and additional side chambers guarantee even heat distribution, prevent cold bridges and ensure that the down does not slip.
-
Carbon heating element : This can be optionally retrofitted and can be easily operated with a standard power bank. After a strenuous hike, we recommend preheating the sleeping bag for 10-15 minutes to optimally support your body's recovery.
-
Anti-slip studs: They prevent slipping off the insulation mat and thus ensure a stable sleeping place.
-
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification: Grüezi bag® products are harmless to human health.

FEATURES
-
Adjustable hood with face baffle: The thermal baffle adapts perfectly to the shape of your head. When it's cold, only a small hole remains open, reducing heat loss from the face.
-
3D thermal collar: Closes automatically in the zipper area, so there is no cold bridge in the zipper area.
-
Drawstring pocket: To ensure that the drawstring on the thermal collar does not get in the way, it is safely stored in a simple drawstring pocket.
-
Inside & outside pocket: For valuables and things you prefer to keep close to you.
-
Two-way auto-lock zipper: The zipper can be opened and closed from either end, inside or outside. The auto-lock prevents it from opening accidentally.
-
White zipper: This makes it easier to find the zipper in the dark.
-
Zipper with anti-snag zipper and lined robust webbing: This makes the zipper even easier to operate without pinching the outer fabric.
-
Zipper with lined zipper cover: So that heat cannot escape and no cold bridges are created.
-
Elaborately pre-shaped foot box: With many chambers to avoid cold spots and plenty of space for the toes
-
Feater loops: The warming hip bag with heating element (Feater - The Feet Heater) can be installed additionally.
-
Chamber construction: Box chambers , H-chambers (V-shaped), additional sidewall construction , AlmWolle layer construction on the top
-
Anti-slip nubs on the back: These prevent the sleeping bag from slipping on an insulation mat.
TECHNICAL DETAILS

Temperature range according to EN 23537-1:
T comf: 28 °F / T lim: /17 °F / T ext: -17 °F.
Optimal operating range from 17 °F to 28 °F.
For winter and expedition sleeping bags, the EN standard's specifications (laboratory tests) are not very meaningful. Therefore, we provide additional temperature recommendations based on numerous practical tests.

WHAT IS DOWNWOOL HYBRID?
What makes this sleeping bag special is its innovative hybrid insulation. This insulation is naturally more resistant to high humidity. In a DownWool Hybrid sleeping bag, you’ll immediately feel the wide comfort temperature range—it’s never too hot or too cold.
This is achieved through the innovative layered construction of high-quality, animal welfare-certified (RDS-certified) European goose down (800+ cuin) and a layer of wool from the Alps. This patented combination works like a light and natural air conditioner.
Down: Excellent insulation—only when dry!
High-quality down offers exceptional insulation at low weight. However, down clumps when exposed to high humidity (air, sweat, condensation) and loses its insulating ability. Grüezi bag solves this problem with its innovative 2-layer construction of wool and down.
Wool: Effective moisture and temperature regulation
Thanks to the wool layer in the DownWool Hybrid, the down stays naturally drier and retains its insulating power. In winter temperatures, the human body can sweat up to 1.5 liters overnight. This moisture evaporates in the sleeping bag and condenses on the inner surface of the outer shell, dripping onto the down, which then loses its insulation. The wool layer in Grüezi bag® hybrid sleeping bags absorbs the moisture and releases it outward, keeping the down dry and insulating. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture via capillaries and release it gradually.
DownWool Hybrid not only regulates moisture effectively but also body temperature. Wool prevents evaporative cooling and stays warm even when damp—something no other material can do. Wool naturally creates a cozy microclimate thanks to its climate-balancing properties. Additionally, it neutralizes unpleasant odors.
The result: Excellent insulation and a wide comfort temperature range where you can sleep well and feel good. DownWool Hybrid is also less sensitive to humidity, making Grüezi bag® sleeping bags top performers even below freezing.

CARE
Washing
- The washing instructions are located in the inner pocket of the sleeping bag. It can be washed by hand or in a washing machine (wool cycle) with down detergent at max. 30 °C / 86 °F.
- Turn inside out, close the zipper, run an extra rinse cycle, and do not use fabric softener.
- Remove from the machine, fluff up slightly, and run another spin cycle at max. 600 rpm.
Drying
- Dry in a tumble dryer at max. 60 °C / 140 °F with 2–3 tennis balls for better loft.
- Repeat drying cycles as needed, removing the item after each cycle, shaking and fluffing it up, and allowing it to cool in between.
- Use the timed drying program to ensure the down dries completely.
- If no dryer is available, lay the sleeping bag on a drying rack in sunlight and shake it often to allow air to circulate around it.
How to know it's fully dry
If the sleeping bag still feels thin, repeat drying until it feels loftier than before.
Depending on the outer fabric, drying may take a minimum of 2 days.
The down must be completely dry. Inadequate drying can cause down to clump, permanently damaging the sleeping bag. You'll know it's fully dry when it feels fluffier and thicker than before. Damp down may smell slightly, but the odor disappears once dry.
TIP
- Down sleeping bags should occasionally be dried in a dryer with tennis balls to remove moisture buildup.
- Store sleeping bags open and dry in their storage bag.
When packing into the compression sack, always stuff the sleeping bag starting with the foot end—never roll or fold.
- Air drying is better than washing. DownWool Hybrid® sleeping bags rarely need washing because wool naturally resists odors and dirt. For small stains, spot-clean gently. Wash only if the bag is heavily soiled.
- Always use a sleeping pad under your bag—compressed insulation underneath cannot trap air or warmth. (Find more info about the right sleeping pad [here].)
